Results: Lake Placid 3 Wilssboro 1 (9/5/2018)
The Blue Bombers started off the season on the right track with a 3-1 victory over the Warriors of Willsboro. In the first half, the Blue Bombers enjoyed most of the possession and had a number of chances that they could not capitalize on. The second half was a different story. 7 minutes into the 3rd quarter, Drew Ferebee won the ball near half field, dribbled through the Willsboro defense and scored the opening goal just inside the 18 to make it 1-0. 3 minutes later, Ferebee played the corner short to Grady Draper, who then crossed the ball into the box where Chris Byrne was making the run. Byrne got a foot to the ball and found the back of the net to make it 2-0. In the 4th quarter, Willsboro made things difficult for the Blue Bombers. 3 and a half minutes into the quarter, Willsboro scored from outside the 18 to make it a 2-1 game with 11:30 left in the game. Although Willsboro created many chances to put the pressure on the Blue Bombers, Lincoln Norfolk made a great save in the 4th quarter that helped keep the 2-1 advantage for the Bombers. With 3 minutes left in the quarter, Ferebee sent a corner into the box that found the foot of Zach Webb to make it a 3-1 game. In goal, Norfolk, Drew Donetello, and Wyatt Wardlaw combined to make 6 saves on the night. The Blue Bombers next game is at Elizabethtown/Westport next Friday.
Results Elizabethtown/westport 7 Lake Placid 0
In the first road game of the season, the Blue Bombers struggled against an experienced Elizabethtown/Westport team. Lake Placid started the game with some opportunities that they could not capitalize on. 5:31 into the game, #14 from the Griffins scored to open the scoring for them and to make the game 1-0. About 3 minutes later, #6 scored to make it 2-0. The Blue Bombers kept their composure through much of the first half, but in the last 5 minutes of the half, the Griffins scored 2 more to make it 4-0 at half. Although the Bombers played a much more spirited second half, the experience of the Griffins was too much to overcome, with them scoring 3 more before the end of the game to make it 7-0. An opportunity came for the Bombers late in the game when Grady Draper crossed the ball to Zach Webb who one-timed it and chipped the keeper with what looked like a goal for the Bombers. Unfortunately Webb was a step offsides and the play was called back. In goal, Lincoln Norfolk made 3 saves while Wyatt Wardlaw made 1 save for the Bombers.
Results Seton Catholic 8 lake placid 1
For the second game in a row, Lake Placid came up against an experienced team in Seton Catholic. Lake Placid held strong for the first 15 minutes, until Seton Catholic opened to scoring from #12 to make it 1-0. A minute later, #12 scored his second of the game to make it 2-0. The Knights took a 4-0 lead into the half with #12 scoring a hat trick. In the second half, Lake Placid just could not get the ball out of their own end and the Knights scored 4 more to make it 8-0. In the 55th minute, Zach Webb put the pressure on the backline of Seton Catholic and was able to intercept a pass from the defender and go 1v1 with the keeper which Webb buried into the side netting. From there, the Blue Bombers were given new life and it looked as though they were ready to make a comeback with they way they ended the game. Cody Montagnola was tripped inside the box to give the Blue Bombers a PK. Webb stepped up and unfortunately placed it in the direction of the keeper. Lake Placid had a couple more opportunities that they could not capitalize upon and the game ended 8-1 in favor of Seton Catholic. In goal, Drew Donatello made 6 saves and Wyatt Wardlaw 7 saves for the Blue Bombers.
NAC 2 Lake Placid 1
In a game that was well played and balanced, NAC came out with the victory over the Blue Bombers in OT 2-1. Throughout the game, both teams played a back and forth game that really tested each others defense and goalkeepers. Lake Placid had a PK opportunity that was ultimately saved by the keeper. From there, NAC capitalized on their PK opportunity after a handball in the box to take a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, Brady Trombley struck a ball that hit off the crossbar, Zach Webb followed it up and was able to capitalize on their opportunity to tie the game up. Early in the overtime period, NAC crossed the ball from the right wing into the box that found an NAC player, who put the ball into the back of the net. The Blue Bombers fought hard for the equalizer but was unable to before time expired. In net, Drew Donatello (2), Lincoln Norfolk (3) and Wyatt Wardlaw (3) combined for 8 saves for the Blue Bombers.
willsboro 2 Lake Placid 0
Lake Placid dropped a close one on the road to Willsboro, as the Blue Bombers lost 2-0 to the Warriors. With 2 minutes left before the half, Willsboro was able to put one past the keeper with a shot that hit the top corner of the net. After a stale and stagnant 1st half, the Blue Bombers came to life and created some opportunities. Lake Placid controlled much of the 2nd half. Then with about 4 minutes left, Willsboro threw the ball in that landed right in the middle of the defense to the foot of a Willsboro player who was able to put the shot past the keeper to make it 2-0. In goal, Lincoln Norfolk (3), Wyatt Wardlaw (6) and Drew Donatello (3) were able to combine for 12 saves for the Blue Bombers.
Elizabethtown/Westport 2 LAke Placid 1
In the reverse fixture against a veteran team in Elizabethtown/Westport that frustrated and dominated the Blue Bombers 7-0 was anything but a route this time around. The Blue Bombers relied heavily upon their defense and counterattack to off-balance the Griffins. Throughout the game, Lake Placid was aggressive and did not allow the Griffins to settle into their game like last time. In the 57th minute, on the counter attack, Chris Byrne found Zach Webb with the throughball. Webb was able to control the pass, take a touch around both a defender and the keeper to put the ball into the back of the net and make it 1-0 with about 3 minutes to go. In the 59th minute though, the Griffins equalized with a ball up over the top that found a Griffin player. With the sweeper beat, Elizabethtown/Westport equalized to make it 1-1 before heading into overtime. In overtime, in what happened to be a misunderstanding of the rules, the Griffins scored 30 seconds into the overtime frame to come away with the sudden victory 2-1. In goal, Lincoln Norfolk (3), Wyatt Wardlaw (8) and Drew Donatello (3) combined for 14 saves for the Blue Bombers.
Seton Catholic 2 Lake Placid 0
For the second game in a row, the Blue Bombers did not allow a team that previously imposed their will do so the second time around. After the first seven minutes, Seton Catholic went up 2-0 in what looked like it was going to be another route. After that, Lake Placid was able to settle in and stop the Knights from scoring again the rest of the game. Lake Placid created a few opportunities that they were just not able to capitalize upon throughout the game. In goal, Lincoln Norfolk (1) and Drew Donatello (5) combined for 6 saves for the Blue Bombers.
Chazy 7 Lake Placid 0
In their 3rd game in 4 days, an undermanned Lake Placid team were unable to match the intensity Chazy brought to the game and ended up losing 7-0. In goal, Lincoln Norfolk (2), Wyatt Wardlaw (1) and Drew Donatello (6) combined for 9 saves for the Blue Bombers. Chazy outshot the Blue Bombers 14-1 and held 4-1 corner advantage.
NAC 5 Lake Placid 0
In a reverse fixture of a closely contested matchup, NAC was able to control the game the second time around to come away with a 5-0 victory over the Blue Bombers. Throughout the game, the Cougars controlled the midfield and was able to find the open areas on the field to help put away the Blue Bombers. In the 15th minute, NAC scored to make it 1-0. In the span of 3 minutes, NAC was able to score 3 goals to make it 3-0. Then right before halftime, NAC scored their 4th of the game. Late in the 2nd half, NAC added a 5th goal over a much improved Lake Placid team after halftime. Lake Placid held the advantage on corners (7-1) while NAC outshot the 9-4. In goal, Lincoln Norfolk (1), Wyatt Wardlaw (1) and Drew Donatello (2) combined for 4 saves for the Blue Bombers.
Chazy 6 Lake Placid 0
In the final game of the year, the Blue Bombers put in a tough effort against a strong Chazy team. In a game that saw the Blue Bombers compete, the Eagles were still able to come away with the 6-0 victory. Chazy scored early on to make it a 1-0 game. After that, the Blue Bombers settled in and were able to make some runs that unfortunately came to nothing. In the 24th minute, Wyatt Wardlaw dove the correct way to make the save but unfortunately the slick muddy ground caused the ball to skip off the surface and right over a diving Wardlaw to make it 2-0. Shortly after, Chazy added their 3rd of the game to head into halftime up 3-0. In the second half, Chazy was able to add 3 more goals before the end of the game. Chazy outshot the Blue Bombers 9-1 and held the advantage on corners 6-3. In goal, Lincoln Norfolk (2) and Wyatt Wardlaw (1) combined for 3 saves for the Blue Bombers.
